where the tangent is the architecture

I'm an independent bookseller, so please forgive me if I chatter about books. They're almost all I have.

swisslandia asked: Hi. Loved your post rebutting that tool at Slate's tool-y article. Well done. One question - what is the book that you described as "a book about light and scents and changing seasons and lust and memory, set in a small south-eastern Polish town"? Because I want that. Bad. Really, I was sold at light & scents, but by the time you got to memory I was vibrating with desire. Thanks.

“Vibrating with desire” makes it seem you should maybe take a moment, find a private place to help sort that out. The book is excellent, though, one of my ten favorites this year.

You are looking for Dukla by Andrzej Stasiuk, translated by Bill Johnston, and you can get it here.
